The Natural Way to Extend Freshness
The National Onion Association reports that annual per capita consumption of onions in the United States has reached an impressive 20 pounds.
After experiencing a 63 percent increase in demand over the previous fifteen years, onions are now the third highest consumed fresh vegetable.1
Local restaurants, hotels, schools and institutions rely on produce processors to deliver fresh, high quality, value- added onions. As a processed produce item, it is critical that fresh-cut onions stay safe and stable in a packaged environment.
Paper Pak Industries has developed UltraZapXtendaPak Onions, an innovative way to promote the safety and improve the appearance and shelf life of fresh cut onions.
UltraZapXtendaPak Onions is a revolutionary active absorbent pad designed to maintain the onions' sensory features - smell, color, and texture - and extend the shelf life by slowing the product's respiration rate.
The patented cellulose pad generates CO2 gas to reduce the growth of micro-organisms inside the package. The absorbent pad, packed with super absorbent polymers, effectively wicks juice away from the cut onions in a standard steam tray.
Even in a non-barrier package, UltraZapXtendaPak Onions active pads generate CO2 gas to slow the respiration rate, thus lowering bacteria, yeast and mold growth and extending the product shelf life.
UltraZapXtendaPak Onions Active Pad Benefits
Onion processors will realize immediate benefits by using the innovative UltraZapXtendaPak absorbent pad:

"PPI's UltraZapXtendaPak absorbent pads are a critical component in Liberty Fruit's value-added fresh cut fruit program.
In addition to lowering our packaging costs, UltraZapXtendaPak pads have increased our customers' satisfaction by maintaining the freshness of our fresh cut fruits.
The active pad slows the fruit's respiration rate, inhibits bacteria growth, and absorbs the excess juice in packages of fresh cut tomatoes, watermelon, pineapple, cantaloupe, and honeydew."
