The Natural Way to Extend Freshness
The United States Department of Agriculture reports that annual per capita consumption of fresh tomatoes is nearly 90 pounds.1
The demand for high quality, fresh tomatoes continues to rise, particularly in out-of-home foodservice locations.
Restaurants, hotels, hospitals, schools and other foodservice outlets depend on local produce processors to deliver fresh, value-added tomatoes. As a delicate, perishable vegetable, fresh cut tomatoes must be packaged in a protective environment.
Paper Pak Industries has developed UltraZapXtendaPak Tomatoes, an innovative way to promote the safety and improve the appearance and shelf life of fresh cut tomatoes.
UltraZapXtendaPak Tomatoes is a revolutionary active absorbent pad designed to maintain the tomatoes' sensory features - smell, color, and texture - and extend the shelf life by slowing the product's respiration rate.
The patented cellulose pad, packed with super absorbent polymers, effectively wicks juice away from cut tomatoes while generating CO2 gas to reduce the growth of micro-organisms inside the package.
Even in a non-barrier package, UltraZapXtendaPak Tomatoes active pads generate CO2 gas to slow the respiration rate, thus lowering bacteria, yeast and mold growth and extending the product shelf life.
UltraZapXtendaPak Tomatoes Active Pad Benefits
Tomato processors will realize immediate benefits by using the innovative UltraZapXtendaPak Tomatoes absorbent pad:

"PPI's UltraZapXtendaPak absorbent pads are a critical component in Liberty Fruit's value-added fresh cut fruit program.
In addition to lowering our packaging costs, UltraZapXtendaPak pads have increased our customers' satisfaction by maintaining the freshness of our fresh cut fruits.
The active pad slows the fruit's respiration rate, inhibits bacteria growth, and absorbs the excess juice in packages of fresh cut tomatoes, watermelon, pineapple, cantaloupe, and honeydew."
