A Clean Green Product Improvement: CompressionPak
New System Increases Logistics Efficiencies
PPI has developed a system - known as CompressionPak - that maximizes the efficiency of our case pack.
CompressionPak increases the number of Zap or UltraZap food pads per case upwards of 35 percent - with no change in shipping carton size. The system offers several benefits to our customers:
- Immediate Cube Savings. CompressionPak products take up less space in a warehouse or storeroom, and on a truck. The incremental number of pads in a case reduces the number of cases that need to be shipped and stored.
- Administrative Savings. More food pads on a truck results in fewer purchase orders and fewer invoices to pay, therefore allowing administrative staff to focus on other issues.
- Better Box Performance. CompressionPak boxes have more internal integrity, reducing the incidence of crushed or damaged cases.
- Significant Source Reduction. A reduction in packaging material per pad produces an immediate, positive environmental impact. In addition to source reduction, more food pads on a truck means fewer total trucks shipped annually, thus reducing fuel usage and harmful emissions.
Our patent protected line of Zap and UltraZap cellulose absorbent food pads will increasingly be available in CompressionPak cases.

Paper Pak Industries Expands Manufacturing Capacity for East Coast, Canadian Customers
Paper Pak Industries recently announced the planned expansion the company's existing manufacturing site in Washington, Georgia. The expansion increases the plant's capability for more advanced manufacturing technology, production capacity and new product additions. In a related development, Paper Pak Industries also announced the addition of a warehouse in the Northeast to enhance the Company's service in that region.
"This announcement indicates an important addition to Paper Pak's East Coast manufacturing facility and logistics operations, and better positions us to meet the increasing needs of our customers," said Ron Jensen, Paper Pak Industries' Chief Executive Officer and President. "The strong customer acceptance of our new absorbent pad technologies and a growing customer base in the eastern United States and Canada has prompted us to make these expansion plans."
The decision to invest in the Washington, Georgia site reflects Paper Pak Industries' on-going commitment to providing the food industry with the most technologically advanced absorbent products. Paper Pak recently introduced the UltraZapXtendaPak line, a product that greatly improves the economics of processing and retailing meat and poultry products in supermarkets. Based on a technologically advanced, proprietary system developed by a team of food packaging experts, UltraZapXtendaPak minimizes the bacterial growth in store-packaged meat and poultry by incorporating the natural preservative effects of carbon dioxide into the absorbent pad.
"The introduction of UltraZapXtendaPak has been very successful and is providing incremental sales volume for Paper Pak," explained Jensen. "It is the first in a series of new products that will help our food processing and grocery retail customers extend the shelf life and food safety of their products."
At Paper Pak Industries' La Verne, California headquarters, a team of Paper Pak Industries technologists is actively engaged in on-going new product development and research. "The technology in absorbent pads is changing rapidly as new, revolutionary solutions are developed. Our customers' needs are becoming more specific to their products, thus we are tailoring our new products to specific applications," said Jensen.
Coinciding with the new product development is Paper Pak Industries' engineering improvements in product manufacturing. According to Jensen, Paper Pak has completed a number of engineering initiatives to advance their converting lines that have substantially improved the dimensional integrity and longevity of Paper Pak's absorbent pads.
